Overview
You can enable desktop notifications of Sococo5k activities so that you don't miss important events when the application is not in focus. These desktop notifications work with both the web app and the desktop app on different operating systems. They use the existing Chrome browser and operating system notification frameworks.

Chrome Notifications Settings
Google Chrome needs to be set up to allow the Notifications from the Sococo5k App Page (app.sococo5k.com) to flow into the browser. You can allow notifications by following the process described in Configuring Notifications and Sounds. When notifications are enabled, you can verify the status by accessing the web application and clicking on the padlock icon next to the URL field. A window appears, similar to the one below, which confirms that Notifications are allowed and also provides the option for changing the status to either On or Off.
Configuring Notifications
Sococo5k desktop notifications are configured on the General Settings & Notifications page, which is accessible from the Settings menu. From this page, you can do the following:
- Enable or disable desktop notifications (disabled by default).
- Identify the events for which you want to receive notifications.
Refer to Configuring Notifications and Sounds for more information.
After the notifications have been configured, you will receive desktop notifications for the enabled events. The desktop notifications for the desktop app and web app are very similar. The only difference will be the source of the notification, which will be displayed at the top of the badge.

Using Desktop Notifications on Windows
When running the Desktop App on a Windows PC, desktop notifications for Knocks, Gets, and new chat messages, among others, remain visible for 5 seconds, or until action by the user dismisses them or brings Sococo5k into focus. Windows users can check the Notification Center to see all notifications delivered by Sococo5k. Refer to How to control your notifications and stay sane for more information.
If you are using Windows and you are not getting notifications, it is possible that Focus Assist is enabled. In this case, go to Settings > System > Focus assist and select Off.
Using Desktop Notifications on Mac
Mac operating systems offer two types of desktop notifications:
- Banners, the default notifications, appear in the upper-right corner of your screen, without interrupting what you are doing. Banners appear for 6 seconds, then slide off the screen to the right. Mousing over a banner, however, changes the notification format to that of an alert.
- Alerts appear similar to banners, but they remain on your screen until you take action.
Refer to Change Notifications preferences on Mac for more information about the process of updating the alert style and other notification preferences. If you are not getting notifications, it is possible Do Not Disturb has been enabled. To disable Do Not Disturb, click the Control Center icon in the top-right corner of your Mac's menu bar and toggle off the Do Not Disturb option.
Using Desktop notifications on Linux
Ubuntu 20.04 and later versions already have a built-in Do Not Disturb feature that prevents desktop notifications from being displayed. If you are not getting notifications, it is possible this feature has been enabled. To disable it, click on the message tray in the top-middle and toggle the Do Not Disturb button.
